Veterans with Hearing Loss Program Fact Sheet
Where: Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, N.Y., which is home to the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, a worldwide leader in educating men and women with hearing loss. RIT also has been designated a “Yellow Ribbon” and “Servicemembers Consortium College” for their educational support of veterans, servicemembers and their families.
When: The inaugural class begins Fall 2009, with orientation in late summer.
Qualifications: Veterans must be honorably discharged from military service and must be qualified to matriculate in RIT undergraduate or graduate classes.
Benefits to Veterans: RIT, through NTID, will:
• provide educational access services, including note taking and C-Print® captioning services
• provide audiology services, including cochlear implant mapping
• offer counseling to matriculated veterans with hearing loss
• partner with local Vet Center, VA Outpatient, VR & E and other veteran-based
organizations to complement services offered to matriculated veterans
• offer cooperative work and placement services to assist in securing employment
