Park City, UT
The general business meeting was called to order by President Marjorie Grantham at 1705 on 5-Apr-2004. Marjorie noted the large attendance at the meeting and addressed the membership on the various aspects on the utility of MAA dues payments including a unique military-to-military conference, waiver of dues for AuD enrollees, competition for $500 AuD scholarships and involvement in various professional organizations (AAA, CAOHC, NHCA, AFASLP). The board members were then introduced. Executive Secretary Therese Walden was unable to attend the meeting. LtCol Angela Williamson reported that the MAA had a balance of $11,353 thanks to our vendor contributions with expenditures as follows:
- $5,500 for food including 20% service fee, 9% tax
- $400 dinner
- $600 T-shirts
- $160 plaques
- (4) $500 AuD scholarships
- $500 Audiology Awareness Campaign
Angela also noted that there were 31 emeritus members, 42 paid memberships and 13 AuD student memberships.
Old Business
Tom Hutchison reported on the Association of VA Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists (AFASLP) and the use of Memberclicks to track our mailing list and contact information. The pro-rated fee was explained with a $700 set-up fee with costs thereafter ~$100 per year. This was considered easily affordable for MAA involvement. AFASLP is an umbrella organization and is strengthened by our combined memberships.
New Business
- The World Council on Hearing Health was introduced along with their need for donations. After discussion, Col Allen moved for a MAA contribution to be determined by the board. Motion seconded by COL Chandler and passed by voice vote.
- LtCol Schulz and COL Chandler gave a CAOHC update. The test bank development phase and CAOHC Manual were mentioned along with the fact that CAOHC values the MAA. Nearly 350 Course Directors have been certified by CAOHC. Due to LtCol Schulz impending retirement a new CAOHC representative will need to be elected and COL Chandler’s replacement is upcoming in 2005.
- Maj Grantham then opened the floor for discussion about the role of MAA and the lack of historian since the departure of LTC Beauchamp. LT Cleveland volunteered to fulfill this role. Also discussed were nominations for upcoming awards, a web site survey, newsletter submissions, and the 3rd Open House tentatively set for 2005 in conjunction with AAA in Washington DC.
- MAA Award winners for 2003 include LTC Lorraine Babeu for the Research Award, Dr. Don Ciliax for the Founder’s Award, LTC Marc Stephens for the Elizabeth Guild award (2002) and Ms Leeann Domanico, Elizabeth Guild 2003.
