Auditory Steady-State Responses (ASSR): A Sample Comparison Study
1Lt Brandon Tourtillott
ASSR’s have been a hot topic in Audiology for the past year. The ability to estimate frequency specific hearing sensitivity with an objective test has long been a desire in the Audiology field, especially in the pediatric populations. This presentation will discuss a small sample group of individuals with Mild, Moderate, and Severe Sensorineural hearing loss tested on the Biologic MASTER and the Audera ASSR. A comparison of the two systems will be made in relation to how reliable each system is at estimating frequency specific hearing loss in adults.
Mission to Paraguay
1Lt Nicole Cioni
A review and discussion of experiences from this humanitarian mission will be presented. The presentation will focus on the following: purpose of the mission, pre-planning, equipment needs, how to deal with the unexpected, how it gives you a different perspective on AF mission, exposure to other medical areas, and Audiology’s role in such missions. The presentation will conclude with a series of lesson learned, recommendations for future missions, and a comparison/contrast of our medical system vs. theirs. Very interesting and an eye opening experience.
Keeping Track of Your Career and Picking the Track to Put it On
LtCol Janet Deltuva
The initial portion of the presentation will focus on CGOs. Material presented will review how and why senior officers rank and stratify junior officers. The focus will be methods and strategies officers should consider to develop clinical competencies and foster military career progression. We will look at the need to participate in activities outside the clinic, keeping track of achievements during a rating period, keeping and maintaining records, awards and why they are important, providing OPR inputs to your rater, and following the OPR process without annoying your rater. The second portion will be directed to the field grade officer. We will focus on deciding which track you want your career to take through discussion of the challenges/rewards of staff work and command. The presentation will conclude with a discussion of why mentoring and leadership are critical.
Writing OPRs and EPRs
LtCol Janet Deltuva
This presentation will start at the beginning. Identifying your expectations of those you rate, providing feedback, conducting a feedback session and evaluating yourself in the process. We will then move into the ratee’s responsibilities, rater’s responsibilities and the mechanics of writing OPRs/EPRs. Time permitting we will discuss writing decorations and award packages. The final portion will be a “workshop style” activity to actually write portions of the OPR/EPR.
The New AF Fitness Program and Us
LtCol Carolyn Bennett
With Jan 04 we as AF officers must now succeed in proving our “fitness to fight” in the most extensively revised fitness program in AF history. It is estimated that 70% of the AF will not be able to pass. Do we know what we need to do to pass? I propose to cover the program aspects and provide “tips to pass” from the experts: the exercise physiologists.
